Sri Lankan fishermen to demonstrate in front of Indian Deputy High Commissioner in Jaffna

On Monday (29th February) Sri Lankan fishermen from Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mannar and Mullaitivu will protest outside the Indian High Commission in Jaffna in support of the Sri Lankan government’s actions and diplomatic efforts to stop illegal fishing by Tamil Nadu trawlers and country boats in Sri Lankan waters.
Sri Lankan fishermen in the north request the Sri Lankan government to take appropriate measures to arrest, charge, prosecute and fine Tamil Nadu trawler and country boat owners for persistent illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing in Sri Lankan waters.

After one year of the new Government people are still out of their land. People's Assembly and protest on land rights. People's Alliance for Right to Land (PARL).It was happened 11 of February at CMU Hall and protest was conducted in the Galle road .More than 600 people participated in 15 district including North and East .

Meeting was conducted jaffna Yalpady hall.IDP camp leaders participated that meeting and they build new association called Association of Internal displace persons .They decided to empower the 42 camps leaders and continue the campaign for their rights. After the meeting they had media briefing too.

Jaffna district women comity called Poonthlai meeting was conducted at Agriculture training institutions. 55 women participated that meeting.In the same time North provincial council member Ananthi Sasitharan also participated and gave the speech on present issues for the women . Finally she agreed to build the women network in Jaffna district. Then they selected new office bearers for 2016.

OUR LAND IS OUR LIFE

Invitation for campaign ---------
we are organizing a People’s Forum for Land Rights on 11th of February 2016. On 11th
of February the cabinet decision of releasing Paanama land back to the
community
completes one year, but the people are yet to get their land back.
While there are some progresses in other cases of acquired land (Sampur,
Valikamam, etc) large number of people are still remain displaced and
new threats of displacements are also emerging.
This forum will bring communities of Paanama,
Sampur, Kalpitiya, Mullikulam, Valikamam North, Irudeniyaya, Monaragala
and people who will be affected by Port City project to force the
Government in implementing its promises of giving the
land back to their owners. During the Forum communities will reveal
their current situation. PARL will also hand over its proposals for
constitution in ensuring people’s right to their land to the
constitutional reforms committee. The Assembly will follow
with a protest march.
On 11th morning the Organization for the
Protection of Panampatthuwa (community organization in Paanama) will
lodge a complaint to the Human Right Commission about the delay in
implementing the cabinet decision.
