Fisheries Solidarity Movement [NAFSO] has organized May 1 celebration in
collaboration with some trade unions, mainly FTZ women workers at Katunayaka,
women fisher folk from Negombo, Matara and Kalpitiya, as well as human rights
groups, media and possible other actors related to workers and act on worker’s
rights.
“Build Up Unity among Grass Roots: Ensure Workers’ Rights”

2014 Celebration
Objectives:
Our Objective is to bring working class people, mainly women,
together with factory workers, fishers and possibly farmers in the May 1
celebration for building up strong unity to intervene for worker’s rights
collectively.
Also, we expect to commemorate the assassinated FTZ worker
Roshen Chanaka and continue to push for the disclosure and execution of the
Mahanama THilakaratne Commission report, as this has been the demand and
protest action for more than 35 months continuously until now.
Lastly, through this activity, we intend to forge solid unity
among the individual workers unions working in Negombo, Katunayake area and act
jointly as a wider group or base in the
future.

Paanama paththuwa protection organization leaders say they wont give up their land and will fight up to the end. .They conducted protest 11 of APRIL 2014 at Panama .
G. Somasiri a fisherman by profession and one of the key leader of the organization said, "Our hopes on human rights commission fading away. The ruling of the commission is not considered. We are awaiting to know what supreme court says. We do hope it will be in favor of poor and marginalized farmers and fishers. Unless we fight to the end. Buying people fhrough providing jobs will not help to weaken ourforts. We will continue our struggle and we need support from all".

PARL meeting for Land Rights
Strategic planning for PARL program was conducted Thursday 10 th of April 2014 at colombo . 03 members from NAFSO attended the program with the intention
of planning it with effective implementation.
There are 3 major areas identified for intervention.
1. Information
2. Advocacy
3. Mobilizing
The strategic interventions with objectives were discussed.
The necessity of collective interventions were emerged. And group agreed to build up from the proposed plan.
